Bishops Offley today
is a quiet and attractive place to live. This web site hopes to reflect
that tranquil aspect, whilst at the same time, offering something new
to residents of the village.
What's
in it for me?
Potentially, there are some useful opportunities for residents. Firstly,
everyone in the village is entitled to a free email address (subject
to sensible conditions of use) which will be of the following format:
joe.bloggs@bishopsoffley.co.uk
This will enable
you to communicate anywhere in the world. It will also mean that you
can receive emails about events in Bishops Offley.
If you would like
an email address straight away, contact the
webmaster or telephone 01785 280270 and speak to Nick Evans at SurveyDigital
who will set things in motion. He'll even help you set it up on your
computer if you ask him nicely!
In addition, there's
a SafeSearch facility for the Internet hosted on the front
page of this site. Google SafeSearch protects the searcher from
images and content of an inappropriate nature. Although we make no guarantees
about this service, we have found it to be very fast and very effective.
I
don't have a computer and never want one!
Going
to be tricky are we? OK - still have an email address, but we'll collect
the emails for you, print them up and pass them on to you. it might
just be a good quick way of keeping in touch with remote friends and
relatives. (Again, this is offered subject to reasonable limits - we're
not the Royal Mail!)
How
can I contribute?
The
site is currently under construction and therefore contains only sample
information. This is where you can help. We intend to build a picture
of the village’s history and we need photographs, maps, stories
and any other resource that you think might be useful. It doesn’t
matter how old and battered things are – we can find ways of improving
them for the web.
If you would like to contribute, there are two main areas you can help
with:
-
History of your property – we would like to be able to show
some of the older properties in the village as they were 50, 100,
150 years ago
- History
of the village and surrounding areas – do you know a good story
or have some good pictures that might be of interest to former and
current residents and to people in other countries who request information
on Bishops Offley? Schools will also make use of this resource
If you have some
materials or stories, contact
the webmaster (01785 280270) now for details of how you can have
these presented on the web site.
